Tales of the Norloch

The Norloch was formerly on the north (nor is Scots word for north, and loch is Scots for lake) side of Edinburgh Castle Rock on the present site of Princes Street Garden's (see picture on right), and its dark depths held many secrets

One infamous tale is of the 'witches test' carried out in the Norloch.  The unfortunate it has to be said accused woman would be bound and thrown into the loch and if she:

a) floated, then she was obviously a witch and taken thence

   to be burned at the stake (poor woman!);

or

b) drowned, then she was obviously innocent...

and here's a bit of Norloch history...yes we were in Edinburgh's Hogmanay Festival...in fact we're in every Hogmanay Festival somewhere so book us quick!

2007 saw the 60th Anniversary of the End of Prohibition in Wick (hooray!)  We helped them to dance and celebrate this momentous event at the inaugural ball in The Old Pulteney Distillery in Wick

It was so successful they ran it again in 2008 (see below)

Norloch have played in many charity events and are always happy to support a worthy cause :-)

There have also been a number of celebrities who have danced at our gigs, and both happily coincided at a recent gig (August 2009) in Leith:

Here's what Gail had to say about Finola and her educational trust...
